Shingon Buddhism
Shingon Buddhism was founded by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) and is said Mikkyo which teaches the root of Buddhism. Mikkyo can be translated as “secret teachings”. And Mikkyo is the Japanese word for Esoteric Buddhism. Mikkyo was introduced to Japan by Kobo Daishi from china at early Heian period.
Buddha which is the basis of Buddhism is Dainichi Nyorai who is the true
form of the universe and an absolute truth. Shingon (true words) of Dainichi
Nyorai are recited as follows. “On Abiraunken Basara Dadoban”
Basic Teachings of Shingon Buddhism
The basic teachings request the following demands to realize the wisdom of Dainichi Nyorai.
- You should believe the prayer of Buddha firmly with mind of Bodhi and you should understand as it is that the true character of everything is a pure mind.
- Having the strong mind that you love everything of the present life and you look for the truth, you should realize the truth and awake to the wisdom of Buddha to be practiced through all the workings of your behavior, speech and mind.
Koyasan Shingon Buddhism
Koyasan Shingon Buddhism is one of the leading sects in the Shingon Buddhism and having Kobo Daishi as the founder of Koyasan Shingon Buddhism, Kongobuji is the head temple of Koyasan Shingon Buddhism.
We believe Okunoingobyou of Kobo Daishi as the fountainhead of faith and think Danjougaran the place for studying Buddhism and for training ourselves. The true teachings of Buddhism and the tradition are handed down to posterity.
Teachings of Koyasan Shingon Buddhism
- Teachings of Koyasan Buddhism are that everything in the universe is equal as the sign of the life of Dainichi Nyorai and we give full play to our ability by helping each other and by making the best use of the life.
- Through the spirit of Bodhi and on the basis of merciful heart, all people aim for the establishment of peaceful society.
- On the basis of the spirit of Kobo Daishi’s Kyouri Gunnjou, the teachings
aims at foundation of a welfare society under the basic theme “Let’s keep
all lives”.
Kobo Daishi
The other name of Kobo Daishi’s name is Kukai and Henjo Kongo is the religion
name ( Kanjou name) that he was given from his master of Buddhism when
he had learned Esoteric Buddhism in China. Kobo Daishi was born in 774
in the province of Sanuki (Kagawa Pref.) on Shikoku Island. He made a decision
and prayed to save mankind eternally. He has fallen into deep meditation
in 835 at Okunoin of Koyasan in Wakayama prefecture.
